Save the Bees - please!!

I just read in our Sunday paper this morning that the American Honey bee is under attack by a kind of mite that likes to hitch rides and eat them. It's this micro tiny mite that might have us all thinking twice about how we rank here on the planet.

Our fruits and veggies can not be created without the honey bee. Honey bees pollinate the flowers that turn into the fruit, nuts and veggies. Basically the bee is the sex machine of the flower world - there are other insects that transfer the pollen too - but none like the honey bee.

The saddest part of this is that wild bees are gone - we only have the bees we raised in captivity- so our back up team has left the planet.

When looking at the problem and if you think about it carefully - how are we going to get kill off the parasite mite without also killing the bee? Most pesticides and the like will kill the bee too. It's a very hard problem to solve.

For me I can't escape the idea that nature is showing us taht we so out of balance with the world around us that it's only a matter of time until it really impacts us directly -and I don't mean just at the grocery store check out line - I mean NO food for anyone regardless of how much cha-ching sitting in the bank!

Greenbacks can not pollinate our food sources. Enough gloom and doom I guess I'll just have to get my SAVE THE BEES bumber sticker.
