Yesterday - hubby and I abandon our Winter Park hovel and fled for Daytona Beach and went to Daytona USA to check out Nascar history. Two years ago we went to the Great American Race - and we just didn't really "get it" - now we understand it "better" but I don't think we'll be buying an RV and making the circuit this February. Although I think the place is absolutely worth going to - we had a blast! We left there and then spent a night in Jacksonville.
During they day we went wireless at Panera Bread and did some work then took a walk and look around downtown Jacksonville - not much to see really. We were walking along the St. John river and I smelled roasting coffee. As the scent got stronger and stronger and we both thought - damn someone must be roasting a lot of coffee, then all of sudden we see the Maxwell House coffee building! It's their largest facility (number 2 is in Texas and number 3 is San Leandro, CA!)...
Now I'm at the delightful Bed & Breakfast, Elizabeth Point Lodge on Ameila Island. We are as far North as you can go before hitting Georgia.
I always forget that Georgia has a coast line...the weirdest thing about me living in Florida is that both sets of my grandparents spent time here in this state. My father's parents met here and my mother's parents lived here when I was a little kid.
Also it seems to me further North you go in this state more Southern it feels and the further South you go in this state the more Northern it feels. Well that is until you get to Miami where it feels like Latin America, and when in the the Keys you're not sure you are in the states at all!
More tomorrow...
