Well I scared myself silly by visiting CNN and FoxNews web sites last night with Wilma stories. Much like the rest of the country I still feeling the sting of what happen with Hurricane Katrina - and as I said in the last blog - it was only a year ago that three hurricanes made their way across my fair city.
Bright and early this morning I boogied on down the local Publix store and got myself some storm essentials. To my amazement the store had set up a display area with "hurricane goods". At first I thought - well that's capitalism at it's finest. Then again - this means that they know what we need so they aren't messing around - get this stuff your gonna a need it.
As I pondered which flash light to pick - the super cheapy cause you just don't want to be with out - or the pricey runs on several different combos of batteries, SEVERAL people were coming up to the display and grabbing sterno, Charcoal, bottled waters, etc. A women looked over at me and said "sure hope we don't need to use any of this stuff" - yah - that's for sure! My neighbors assured me that the building we are in is a fortress. One remarked -by the time the storms reach us it's really not too bad - it's more just a pain in the butt because you have no electricity, there is nothing open and the streets are a mess with debris.
After arriving home with a flashlight somewhere in between the cheapy and the expensive - charcoal, sterno, and a six pack of beer, my husband rolled his eyes and said you need to go to Disney World!! That will calm you down. So off we went and ya it did. The best news I heard to day is that the projection are still saying Wilma is going south - I just hope this cold front above us can push her out and keep her in the ocean. Now we play the wait and see game!
